Q

What is seemyCity.com?

A seemyCity.com is the ultimate on-line rendezvous point for travelers and one on one tour guides around the world. For the independent traveler, seemyCity.com consolidates all of the research into independent tour guides in one place for creating an easy and efficient way for travelers to find guides. This affords the traveler an alternative to going it alone or being herded like sheep in large group tours. One or two couples can share the reasonable price of a guide’s services and really experience the culture and people of the places they visit. It’s the difference between flying at 35,000 feet in a jet and hovering just over the treetops.

Q

How much does it cost to be a traveler member?

A seemyCity.com is free to our traveler members.

Q

How do I begin a search?

A You can start a search in one of three ways: 1) by using the map, simply click the mouse on the country you wish to travel to 2) you can search by interest…what do you want to do and 3) with an advanced search, you can specify the exact location you are traveling to.

Q

How do I personally select my guide?

A As you narrow down your search on seemyCity.com, you can begin to make contact with as many guides as you choose using email or the other contact methods the guide may have listed in their profile. This initial contact will help you to determine which guide will best suit your needs.

Q

How will we know if the guide is a “good fit”?

A You will communicate with the guide via email to determine if the guide will suit your travel needs. Be sure to ask questions about the guide’s background, experience, language skills and rates. Asking as many questions as possible before engaging a guide, will help ensure a good experience for everyone

Q

I’ve traveled quite a bit independently, what are the benefits of hiring a guide?

A Guides provide the insight of a local. They can guide you to the best restaurants, hotels and nightspots. Guides can show you special spots that might not be in a guide book. Guides know about local history and customs as only a local can. Guides also know the current cultural and political climate of a city and can direct your travels more effectively than referring to a guide book whose information is most likely a year old or more.

Q

Can I tailor my trip to my specific interests?

A Most of the time the answer to this is Yes! Be sure to tell the guide exactly what you are interested in. Be specific about times, locations, sites, or events that are most important to you, but also be open to suggestions from the guide. Lastly, make sure you have reached an agreement that the Guide can provide the type of service you are looking FOR.

Q

How will my guide and I communicate prior to the trip?

A Generally you and the guide you choose will correspond via email. Additional contact information may be available, depending on the guide such as phone, instant messaging or web connect. As you get closer to your trip and once your travels are underway, you should be sure to have a phone number for more immediate contact with your guide.

Q

What are seemyCity.com’s guides qualifications?

A seemyCity.com is an open forum where anyone with the desire to share information about their city is welcome. Our guides range from those who have no formal training, but have a great amount of knowledge and enthusiasm for their city, to guides who have undergone extensive training and passed college level exams in history, art and culture and to qualify as guides.

All guides are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the areas in which they are guiding. Rules and regulations governing tour guides vary from country to country. Some places require that guides be licensed through the government and undergo rigorous training. Guides advertising on seemyCity.com are not employees of seemyCity.com. They are independent contractors. seemyCity.com provides an “on-line” meeting place for travelers and guides. However, ultimately, all arrangements are made between the guide and the traveler.

Q

I can't find a guide in the area I want to visit. Can you help?

A Send us a note at info@seemyCity.com to let us know where you are interested in going. Also, check back with seemyCity.com regularly. New guides are added almost daily and our site is constantly being updated.
